The Garage - Part 1 of Spring Cleaning
Springtime is knocking on the door here in Virginia Beach, and it is time to prepare for this welcome visitor. You need to have a plan of action that will help you to prepare for the long awaited arrival.
The garage is a great place to start. Over a long winter the garage can end up being the resting place for all your extra or unnecessary belongings. So beginning with a good purge is a good way to get rid of all the items that you will never use or need.
A garage sale may be a good incentive to help you get started. Get the neighbors involved, and try and plan a neighborhood sale. This could give you a good week or two to really go through your stuff and find out what you are ready part with. Anything not fit for sale, should be set aside for disposal or recycling. You will need to check with your local waste disposal facility to find out how you can dispose of paints, oils, or flammable liquids.
Now that you have freed up some valuable space in your garage you can concentrate on organization. Give the garage a good scrub and sweep. It is time to say goodbye to all the cobwebs that are making your garage look like a room from a haunted house. Get yourself bins that can be labeled to help you separate items in easy to find locations. You can arrange the bins so that you have easy access to items you use on a consistent basis, while everything else is put away for retrieval when needed.
A big part of spring cleaning is going to be home and yard maintenance. So now is a good time to make sure all your tools are in good shape and are where they are supposed to be. It is better to find out now that you never got your power drill back from the neighbor who moved than when you are in the middle of a project.
Finally, when was the last time you had your lawn mower serviced? Like your car a lawnmower requires preventive maintenance to perform efficiently. It has an oil filter, air filter, and spark plugs that need to be checked regularly. For best performance a well sharpened blade is necessary for your mower to perform effectively. So now that your garage is in order you will be ready to move outside to begin your spring projects.
